Mouse traps and Ladders!

How do the mouse trap and ladder activities connect to our next unit, climbing?

I think that the two activities were both a little scary. you had to be very careful about where you put your finger and had to handle it gently so it wouldn't snap on you. the ladder activity enforced the idea that you have to trust your partner to do their part and hold the ladder steady. the ladder also showed that especially at heights you have to be steady, even minded, and make intelligent decisions.

I think it symbolizes the fact that we have to work as a team and we have to take every precaution to stay safe. My team held the mousetraps really steadily and held them on the side that if it did snap, it wouldn't snap their fingers. We also listened to one another and payed close attention to the surroundings. All of those things apply to climbing.

These activities were definitely intense to say the least. They both showed us how necessary two people working together are to climbing. Without at least 2 people cooperating, the mousetrap activity would have never worked. Then with the ladder we had to work together to climb. If one person was slacking off, the ladders were bound to fall. This is really just showing us teamwork, first on the ground, and then teamwork while climbing up.

I think that the mouse traps showed us that you have to trust the other people around you so you don't get hurt. We had to plan before we started on how we were going to pass the trap off without getting our fingers snapped. I think that this relates to climbing because we have to plan before hand on how we are going to climb up and make sure everyone understands how to do it. The ladder helped because we had to keep our balance and had to listen to the other person. If we each did it our own way, it wouldn't work.

I think that the mouse traps and ladders apply to climbing because you have to trust eachother and use team work.

the mouse trap and ladder activities are ways of being able to trust everyone in the class. if we cant trust eachother with this, then there's no way we can trust eachother when were climbing.

Well the ladders activity showed the instability you feel while climbing and I don't know about the mouse traps because I wasn't here.

The mouse trap activity was scary because we had to work together so the trap wouldn't snap. We had to figure out how to hold it so your fingers won't get hurt. Then the ladder activity was hard because you had to trust the person you were going with and talk to eachother to get to the top. Also, the people on the ground had to help keep the ladder still. We all had to work as a team.

The ladder activity definately related to climbing because it helped us get used to being up high and climbing up something. It also helped us get used to the idea of people on the bottom needing to make sure the people up high don't fall. The mouse trap activity helped us get used to trusting each other and also getting used to scary risks.

I think that the mouse trap activity connects to our next unit in the way that you had to take chances and you knew that you could have gotten hurt just like in rock climbing. The only way to succeed was to be very careful and communicate with your team members. The ladders tied into the climbing, teamwork and communication, and getting over the fear of being up high with chances of falling.

The mouse trap and ladder activities related to climbing beacuse you had to communicate well and be really careful. If you grabbed the mouse trap wrong you could've snapped your finger. If someone wasn't holding the ladder stable, you could fall. Same with climbing. If we don't tie knots right, or pay attention to the climber someone can get hurt.

i think that the mouse trap activity was really scary. i definatly didnt want to touch the mouse traps but i tried it and got even more scared and threw it and my team had to start that one again sorry guys! but at least i tried it =] i think the ladder related because we had to trust other people while we are up in the air. i think the mouse traps related because if you moved the slightest wrong way then the trap could have gone off and someone could have gotten hurt.

I think the mouse trap was really fun and interesting.

That was a good lesson with the mouse traps, but i don't know about climbing.

I think that we did both of these activities to show how we should be working as a team so no one gets hurt.

I think that they are both related because both activities are highly dependant on your both your team mates and one significant partner. With that ladder if your partner moved too fast or out of sync with yourself, then you could both fall. With climbing, if your belayer lets go or puts the wrong amount of rope up then you could fall.

I think the two activities combined working together and fear which are the basics of climbing. You had to trust the other people in your group and you also had to listen to everyone in your group to complete the tasks successfully.

I think both these activities will really help people conquer fear from activities that make them feel scared. They also helped build comunication because to succesfully complete these activities communication was vital.

I think both activities were really fun and helped us work together. The symbolization of working as a team was a good idea.

They connect because you have to trust all the other members of your group, and be able to do something together without getting hurt. The ladder was so that you would trust the other person and know a little of what it would be like to be on the wall.

i am for you said...

i would say that this activity connected us to the next activity by showing us how much teamwork that is needed to climb! if we do not work as a team we will not succeed in this and devils lake might not be as fun if we dont know what to do!

it was scary when the mouse traps went off unexpectedly... but i liked setting them off... but overall this took a lot of trust cuz like you needed to be steady and calm & trust that the other ppl woulnt snap your fingers :)

Once again, sorry this is late!

I thought the mouse trap and ladder activities connect to our next unit of climbing because both those activities tested our skills of both individual and team skills. For the mouse trap, it connects to climbing because if one person messes up, the whole this is over and we have to start over. In climbing, we always have to be aware of what we're doing and make sure the person who is climbing is safe and everyone is doing their part. The ladder activity also connects to climbing because everyone has to do their part in putting their foot towards the ladder to hold it still so the people can climb it. It may seem like no big deal to people whether their feet is there or not but it really does.

i think the activities are related to are next unit in ways of teamwork and communication

i think that the ladder and the mouse trap activities really showed us how to work together as a team, and why it really matters for us to work together.
with the ladders, you really had to be in sync with your partner, or else you would both fall.
with the mouse traps, you really had to trust your team that they had set the trap up right, and that they weren't going to let it snap down on your hand.
it shows us that what we do effects everyone, and we really have to be conscious of that

I think that these activities relate to our next unit, climbing, because we need to learn to trust eachother. If we did not work together as a team, we either got our fingers hurt, or we had trouble with the ladder activity. These activities taught us that it's ok to be to scared, as long as we worked together and trusted our team. -Cramer

i was sick during this activity, but it sounds like a lot of fun...

the moustraps were scary, but it did tie with climbing. Me and my team members need to be able to communicate with eachother otherwsie something dangerous will happen. As with the moustraps, we can get hurt or put into a bad situation if we're not all on the same page and talking things out before doing them.

From Sean) The Ladders were really cool.

It connects to the whole idea of teamwork, and taking risk.

this activity was pretty intimidating. i hate mouse traps and anything that makes a loud noise. however, my group got done with it first and without the trap going off once, so it was a success
